Location:
You will be based in Kuala Lumpur, with frequent travel to the Indonesian Island of Sulawesi and Sumatera.
Job Description:
The focus of this newly created position will be to establish and manage Armajaro’s cocoa crop forecasting operation on the Indonesian islands of Sulawesi and Sumatera. The jobholder will play an integral role in ensuring the success of the project and his/her responsibilities will include managing and training local staff, coordinating logistical arrangements, assisting in sample design and ensuring the efficient transfer of data to the research department in London.
A secondary role will involve acting as the Asian market analyst for the research department, with responsibilities including data collection and analysis, internal reporting and external presentations to clients in the rapidly expanding local market.
Requirements:
The successful candidate will have at least two years experience in a project management or similar role. While previous knowledge of cocoa or agronomy is not essential, we are looking for someone with ability to quickly develop a technical expertise in these subjects. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with excellent communication, organizational and problem solving skills. Furthermore the candidate will be expected to have experience in handling and analyzing data, and should be competent in the use of MS Office (Excel, Word and Power Point)
Previous experience of travel in rural areas would be extremely relevant – the person will need to be able to spend an average of up to ten days per month visiting cocoa farms, often in remote regions of Indonesia. Good interpersonal skills and fluency in both written and spoken Bahasa Indonesia and English is essential.
Applicants must be legally entitled to work in Malaysia.
We also envisage the person will spend up to a month in both West Africa and the London office during the first year in the role.
Qualifications:
While not essential, a good honors degree or similar qualification in a relevant discipline will be considered advantageous. A degree in agricultural (especially tropical), agronomy, crop science or biology would be particularly desirable, but the basic requirement is that the appointee should have pursued a course of study which provided him/her with good analytical skills.
